Infected eBay Tool
An add-on for eBay used by thousands of users looking to sell on eBay has been highlighted by Google as potentially malicious. This is because it became infected with a trojan. The tool in question named Auctiva provides tools for sellers on the popular auction website. The company confirmed a virus had attacked files on its servers but fixed the problem soon after. Google works with the StopBadware.org organisation to keep users in the know about potentially malicious websites that are infected with viruses and trojans.
A spokesman for Google said the site was to be reviewed by StopBadware soon.
Amazon – Beating the Crunch
Amazon enjoyed Christmas 2008 as they saw profits raise by 9% in the final three months of last year. The company took full advantage of a robust holiday shopping season. Amazon claim net profit totalled $225m in the fourth quarter, up from $207m a year ago.
Unlike many, Amazon has not yet been hit hard by consumers cutting back. Amazon has re-assured their customers that the online store would continue to offer low prices and free shipping deals to help budget-conscious shoppers. Revenue increased 18% to $6.7bn, beating analysts estimates and Amazon it expected sales to rise in the first three months of 2009. In a time where many retailers are struggling, it seems that Amazon find themselves in the small group of stores that has managed to avoid negative changes to profits and takings.

Happy Christmas.. Keep on Shopping!
I am sure you will
be doing the traditional activities like carving the turkey, opening presents and thinking how much you can sell your
unwanted gifts! But according to the IMRG, they estimate more than £100m will be spent
online today, compared to the figure of £84m last year.
This suprising figure compares with the four and a
half million people who attend a Christmas day church service.
More than five million people are expected to
use the internet to carry on shopping on Christmas Day, the online retail group IMRG says.

Nice Touch!
An application for the iPod Touch can transform the music
player into a mobile phone. The freeware app called Truphone uses wi-fi technology in an iPod Touch to enable users
to make calls to other iPod Touch owners. With plans released by the developers showing the possibility of landline
calls being added to the service, it could prove to be a very powerful tool for any iPod Touch
user.

The application will work very much like one
of the most popular VoIP (voice over internet protocol) pieces of software, Skype.
Amazon Launch Download Service
Online retail giant Amazon has launched a UK music download service. Amazon
will sell tracks from its new Amazon MP3 online store for 59p per single track and from £3 for a whole album. Amazon MP3 will store
more than 3 million songs that will work on any mp3 player, including the iPod.
This move by Amazon means that they are now a
direct competitor with Apple in the ever growing market of online music sales, which in Britain alone was worth an estimated £163m in
2007 and today stands at a far greater number.
Unlike songs downloaded from Apple’s i-tunes store, the music available from
Amazon will be free from the constraints of digital rights management.
