The BBC has released a version of their popular
iPlayer that is compatible with both Mac and Linux computers. Mac and Linux
platforms have previously only been able to stream BBC programmes via the iPlayer but will now be able to handle
downloads.
The BBC has teamed up with software giant Adobe to develop the new
version, known as BBC iPlayer Desktop. A beta version of the BBC iPlayer Desktop that uses the Adobe AIR technology was made available
on 18 December with a finished version expected to be released in February 2009.
