The BBC has released a version of their popular

iPlayer that is compatible with both Mac and Linux computers. Mac and Linux

platforms have previously only been able to stream BBC programmes via the iPlayer but will now be able to handle

downloads.

The BBC has teamed up with software giant Adobe to develop the new

version, known as BBC iPlayer Desktop. A beta version of the BBC iPlayer Desktop that uses the Adobe AIR technology was made available

on 18 December with a finished version expected to be released in February 2009.
